Join Us for a Free Community Hike at Madam Brett Park on September 27!

There’s something special about walking a trail alongside your neighbors — no fee, no gear requirements, just fresh air and good company. That’s exactly what we’re bringing to the Hudson Valley this fall with a free community hike, open to all ages and experience levels.

At Outdoor Promise, we believe everyone deserves access to nature — regardless of income, zip code, or background. For a lot of families in Newburgh and the surrounding area, barriers like transportation, cost, or simply not knowing where to start can keep people from experiencing the natural beauty right in their backyard. This hike is a direct extension of our mission: removing those barriers, one step at a time, and building a community that feels ownership over the outdoor spaces around them.

We’re partnering with Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail to lead a guided walk through Madam Brett Park — a 12-acre gem along Fishkill Creek, rich with history and natural beauty. The park is named for Catheryna «Madam» Brett, one of the first European settlers in present-day Beacon, and it’s a peaceful spot to reconnect with nature, whether you’re a first-time hiker or a seasoned trailblazer.

Beyond the trail itself, this hike is a chance to learn. In keeping with our commitment to community-powered education, our guides will share insight into the park’s ecology, local history, and the environmental issues shaping the Hudson Valley today — part of how we grow the next generation of environmental stewards and outdoor leaders, right here in our own backyard.

  • Lunch included — refuel after the hike with a meal on us
  • Free transportation available — we’re offering pick up and drop off at Safe Harbors in Newburgh, with limited slots (reserve by 9/21)
  • Bringing your own ride? Meet us right at the trailhead at Madam Brett Park, 560 South Avenue, Beacon, NY
  • All ages welcome — bring the whole family

Whether you’re looking to get some exercise, learn something new about the natural world around you, spend quality time with your kids, or just want an excuse to unplug for a few hours, this hike is for you.

Spots are limited, especially for those using our free transportation. Reserve your spot today by visiting our event page or scanning the QR code on our flyer. We recommend RSVPing by September 21 to guarantee your seat on the bus.

Hikes like this one are only possible because of community partners who believe in making the outdoors accessible to everyone. A huge thank you to Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail for co-leading this event with us. Every hike we lead is a step toward the future we’re building at Outdoor Promise — one where every family, in every neighborhood, has the chance to experience, understand, and protect the natural world around them.

Grab your walking shoes, bring a friend, and we’ll see you at Madam Brett Park on September 27!
