Outdoor Promise in Times Hudson Valley: Tree-Planting & Celebration

We were recently featured in Times Hudson Valley for our role in the Environmental Justice Fellowship program, a collaborative effort with the City of Newburgh Conservation Advisory Council and the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy. The article highlights the planting of 32 new street trees across all four wards, led by an inaugural team of young, local Fellows—many bilingual—who conducted community surveys and helped develop a new bilingual tree-care course. The piece also captures the community celebration at Tyrone Crabb Memorial Park, where residents and city leaders gathered to honor the Fellows’ work and the program’s growing impact.

For Outdoor Promise, this recognition underscores the importance of empowering local youth—especially from Black and Latino communities—to lead environmental stewardship efforts in their own neighborhoods. The Environmental Justice Fellowship strengthens climate resilience, expands access to green spaces, and builds a culture of environmental awareness rooted in equity and community connection. Media coverage like this helps amplify the voices of young leaders and showcases how collaborative, community-driven programs can transform urban environments. We invite you to support this work by getting involved, becoming a tree steward, or contributing to the growth of future Fellows.
