1) Introduction
Outdoor Promise Inc. (“Outdoor Promise,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates educational programs, community initiatives, and online content that help youth and families access the outdoors and take action for clean air, safe water, and environmental justice. This page combines our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. By using our websites or services, you agree to these terms.
2) Donations & Refund Policy
We accept donations via Stripe, PayPal, and GiveLively. Donations are considered charitable gifts to a 501(c)(3) and are generally non-refundable.
Refunds: All donations are final and non-refundable unless a processing error occurred. If you believe an error was made, contact info@outdoorpromise.org within 14 days with your receipt or transaction ID.
Receipts & Matching Gifts: We issue digital receipts. Donor-advised funds and employer matches may have additional requirements set by those organizations.
3) Privacy Policy
What We Collect
- Contact information: name, email, mailing address, and messages you send us.
- Program & volunteer information: details you submit for program participation, volunteering, or events (e.g., availability, interests). For youth participants, we collect information from a parent or legal guardian.
- Donation information: limited transactional details (amount, date, method). Payment details are handled by Stripe/PayPal/GiveLively.
- Usage data: IP address, device/browser, pages visited, and similar analytics signals (via Google Analytics and Meta Pixel).
- Media & embeds: interactions with embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos) may be tracked by the provider.
How We Use Information
- To operate our sites, programs, and events.
- To communicate about stories, events, fundraising, and opportunities to get involved (email via ConvertKit).
- To manage relationships and program records (Salesforce for Nonprofits).
- To process donations and send receipts (Stripe, PayPal, GiveLively).
- To improve our websites and outreach (analytics and A/B testing).
- To comply with law, prevent fraud, and protect safety.
Minors & Parental Consent
We work with youth through programs that require a parent or legal guardian’s consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without parental permission. Parents/guardians may request deletion of a minor’s data at any time.
Data Retention
We retain data as long as needed for the purpose collected and to meet legal, tax, and reporting obligations. Donation records are typically retained for IRS compliance. You can request deletion where applicable (see “Your Rights & Choices”).
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate for a nonprofit. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; risk cannot be eliminated.
We Never Sell Personal Data
We do not sell personal data. We may share limited data with service providers under contract to operate our programs and services (see “Third-Party Services We Use”).
4) Your Rights & Choices
- Email preferences: unsubscribe at any time via email footer or by contacting us.
- Access, update, or delete data: email info@outdoorpromise.org or mail a request to our PO Box. We may ask for verification.
- Cookies & tracking: manage preferences via your browser settings and/or platform tools (Google/Meta).
- GDPR/CCPA style rights: we honor reasonable requests consistent with our size and obligations. Some records (e.g., donation receipts) may be retained as required by law.
6) Third-Party Services We Use
We share data with service providers solely to operate Outdoor Promise. Their use is governed by their own privacy terms:
- Payments & Donations: Stripe, PayPal, GiveLively
- Email & Forms: ConvertKit
- CRM: Salesforce for Nonprofits (NPSP)
- Automation: Make.com
- Analytics & Ads: Google Analytics, Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel
- Embeds: YouTube
- Security: Google reCAPTCHA (if enabled on forms)
These providers may process limited personal data on our behalf. We require reasonable protections and do not permit them to sell your data.
7) Programs, Participation & Risk
Outdoor activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to weather, terrain, wildlife, and water hazards. By participating in any Outdoor Promise program or event, participants (and, for minors, their parents/guardians) acknowledge and accept these risks.

8) Community Guidelines
- Show respect. No harassment, hate, or threats.
- Keep it safe. Follow staff instructions during programs.
- No spam, self-promotion, or misinformation campaigns.
- We may remove comments or restrict participation that violates these guidelines or the law.
9) Intellectual Property
Site content is owned by Outdoor Promise or used with permission. You may link to or share our content for noncommercial purposes with attribution. For any other use, request written permission. Trademarks, logos, and program names may not be used without consent.
10) Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
Our websites and content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Outdoor Promise is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of our sites, programs, or services.
11) Changes to this Page
We may update these terms and this policy as our programs or legal requirements evolve. Updates will be posted on this page.
12) Governing Law
These terms and any disputes are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of laws. Venue lies in New York State courts or federal courts sitting in New York.
