Students from Horizons-on-the-Hudson Magnet School collaborated with Yale University School of Architecture graduates to reimagine Muchattoes Lake as part of the Yale Day of Service Challenge. Outdoor Promise supported the project by providing a virtual tour of the lake, helping students engage with the site and develop creative placemaking proposals. Students’ designs were then rendered with guidance from the architects and displayed on a banner celebrating their ideas.
This project highlights the power of community partnerships in shaping public spaces that are inclusive, educational, and environmentally conscious. By involving youth in placemaking, Outdoor Promise helps foster the next generation of leaders who understand the value of outdoor spaces for health, well-being, and community cohesion. Programs like this cultivate a sense of ownership, environmental stewardship, and pride in local natural resources.
