Free, bilingual hikes and outdoor trips for Newburgh families, with a ride there and back. No experience, no gear and no car needed.

How it works
Newburgh sits between the Hudson River and the Highlands, but for many families the parks might as well be in another state. Free Community Adventures closes that gap. Several times a season we fill the Outdoor Promise Adventure Bus with neighbors and head to a park, preserve or trail in the Hudson Valley for a guided, beginner-friendly day outside.
- Free. The trip, the guide, snacks and water are covered.
- Bilingual. Every adventure is led in English and Spanish.
- For everyone. Kids with a parent or guardian, elders, first-time hikers. Routes are chosen for mixed groups.
- Door to trail. The Adventure Bus picks up in Newburgh and brings everyone home.

Upcoming trips are posted on our Eventbrite page as soon as dates are set, and announced in our newsletter (sign up at the bottom of this page) and on Instagram. Seats are limited and go to Newburgh residents first.
Partners and supporters
Fall 2026 adventures are supported by the Palisades Parks Conservancy. The 2026 Adventure Bus pilot was supported by the Malcolm Gordon Charitable Fund of the Open Space Institute. Scenic Hudson opens its parks and preserves to our groups, and the Land Trust Alliance’s New York State Conservation Partnership Program has supported our capacity to run this work. Partners over the years have included Mount Saint Mary College’s Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness.
Keep the adventures free.
A gift of any size keeps our programs free for the Newburgh families who need them most.
