Clean Air Is a Right: JustAir Newburgh Launches to Empower Our Community
In Newburgh, we breathe through pollution, history, and injustice. Families here have faced serious environmental challenges for too long without access to the information needed to protect their health.
That changes now.
We’re proud to announce the launch of JustAir Newburgh, a new community-powered air quality monitoring platform created through a partnership between Outdoor Promise, Bard College, and JustAir. This initiative brings real-time, neighborhood-level air quality data to residents—available in English and Spanish—so families can make smarter decisions about outdoor activities, asthma management, and collective action.
This isn’t just about data. It’s about equity, accountability, and giving Newburgh residents the tools to act. As environmental justice advocates, we know that information is power, and now that power belongs to the people.
“At Outdoor Promise, we believe knowledge leads to action. This tool empowers the people.”
— Ronald Zorrilla, Executive Director, Outdoor Promise
📡 How It Works
JustAir’s digital platform gathers and displays hyperlocal air quality readings using a network of monitors throughout Newburgh. These sensors track key pollutants—like PM2.5 and ozone—and translate the data into an easy-to-understand public dashboard. Whether planning a walk, monitoring your child’s asthma triggers, or organizing for clean air, you’ll now have the information you need in real time.
This is environmental justice in action.
