What a day. On Saturday, June 6th, Tyrone Crabb Memorial Park came alive with community spirit as 20 local environmental organizations, youth programs, city agencies, and residents came together for Green Up Newburgh! 2026 — a free, family-friendly celebration of everything being done to make Newburgh healthier and greener.
The park buzzed with music, free food, fun games, and meaningful action. It was a great afternoon to make a greater, greener Newburgh, and that’s exactly what this community showed up to do.
Attendees explored tables hosted by 20 participating organizations, each representing a different piece of Newburgh’s growing environmental movement — from urban forestry, community gardens, and composting to walking trails, pollinator pathways, park revitalization, and healthy outdoor living. And it wasn’t just about learning. People rolled up their sleeves and got involved: creating seed bombs and pollinator crafts, planting flowers, making eco-art, writing postcards to local representatives, pledging sustainability actions, signing up for volunteer opportunities and youth programs, and more! Story-sharing stations invited attendees to reflect on why trees and parks matter to them — and the answers were as rich and varied as the community itself.
A huge thank-you to the Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy for coordinating this incredible event, and to every organization that showed up, set up, and poured their energy into making it memorable. It takes a community to build a greener city — and Newburgh has exactly that.
Outdoor Promise was proud to participate in Green Up Newburgh! 2026. At Outdoor Promise, we inspire urban youth and families to appreciate the natural world, foster environmental justice, and cultivate outdoor leadership skills for safe and enjoyable adventures. As a Newburgh-based nonprofit, we’re dedicated to increasing equitable access to outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship — because we believe people are more likely to protect the nature they’ve experienced firsthand. Events like Green Up Newburgh are exactly what community-powered environmental justice looks like, and we’re honored to be part of it.
