Outdoor Promise was highlighted in the Mid Hudson Times for its leadership in the Environmental Justice Fellowship, a collaboration with the Conservation Advisory Council and Greater Newburgh Parks Conservancy. The article introduces the 2022 cohort of EJ Fellows—five young Newburgh residents who are championing urban tree planting, stewardship, and community education. Their stories reflect passion, persistence, and a shared commitment to making Newburgh greener, healthier, and more resilient.
This feature underscores what environmental justice looks like in action: young people stepping into leadership roles to restore tree canopy, strengthen climate resilience, and engage neighbors in caring for their environment. For Outdoor Promise, empowering local youth through hands-on stewardship and community advocacy is core to our mission of expanding equitable access to nature and building pathways to environmental careers. When local residents lead the work, the change becomes lasting—and owned by the community itself.
